I curl up on the couch and settle in to watch a movie. A couple of nights ago it was Gentleman Prefer Blondes, a favorite of mine for obvious reasons — well, maybe not. I’m blonde, I like old movies, especially those done in technicolor, and I love Marilyn Monroe.
It is a rather cheesy movie, but it makes me laugh. While I was watching it I came to realize just how much the ideal body shape has changed over the years. Believe me, I’ve never been a proponent of the whole “you should love your body as it is” movement. You should try to stay slim, look nice, be healthy, not get fat, etc.
But if you compare Marilyn or Jane Russell to any of the “famous” actresses of today, wow. They look like skeletons. At what point did skeletons become sexy? Or, at what point did curvy Marilyn become fat?

Bear on a Harley
My first day back in Tennessee and we went to the oldest town, Jonesborough, to a Hog Rally. This ain’t my grandmother’s Jonesborough, either.
Jonesborough now allows the sale of beer and wine, unheard of even 10 years ago. We stumbled into a cafe serving town-famous beer, which I at first laughed at, but it was pretty good. I think they could bump up their status and say regionally-famous microbrew.
About 2 minutes after arriving at the rally, the rain started to pour from the sky. So we made our way under an awning, hoping it would blow over. When it didn’t, we stepped into a gallery, enjoying some of Sherry Jo’s paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
Since the rain didn’t subside, we made our way to the Main Street Cafe, where we enjoyed the famous beer and a Chess bar. The gods must have just wanted us to have a beer, because after we finished, the rain quit falling, and we continued enjoying the bikes.

I’m not sure if taking quizzes is just something that I’m addicted to, if it’s a girl thing, or if it’s universal…

I’m attracted to color; brilliant, bright colors. It’s the reason I’m attracted to photos of Buddhist monks, Tibet, and Carribbean towns. Bright pinks, brilliant blues, outrageous oranges. Oh, and rosé red.

I ran across this article this morning and found it rather amusing and refreshing. So I’m not crazy for not really wanting kids, especially at any point in the near future. Sure they’re cute, and they do some amusing things, but so does my dog. And he does make me happy.
I’ll stick with getting my kid-fix from the cousins.
